I was known as the shy girl who didn’t like to speak at school, so I found my own language through a stack of computer paper and colored pencils. I was fascinated by type and graphics and still am. I studied Visual Communication at the University of Texas at Austin, learning how to bring my passion for art to practical purposes. After graduating, I worked as a graphic designer and art director for a magazine. I have a husband and two children. After traveling and living across the US and Asia, I now reside happily in Boone. Currently, I teach graphic arts at Appalachian State University and work as a freelance graphic designer. I started a children’s art program about 6 years ago, and I teach art to students at my home and at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at ASU. I love learning about other cultures. I am passionate about inspiring students of all ages to be creative through art and design.
